MV-22 Osprey Joins Marine One Support Fleet
The first MV-22 Osprey has begun flying in support of Presidential Marine One operations. The tilt-rotor, built by Bell and Boeing, will fly support staff. The President is not expected to fly on the Osprey.
The Osprey replaces the dual-rotor CH-46E Sea Knight helicopter. The Osprey offers a substantial increase in speed, range and payload over the CH-46.
The aircraft was first put into Presidential service in August, transporting members of the White House Staff, media and Secret Service to Martha's Vineyard in support of the President's visit to the area.
