**Update Friday March 4th: The CF 18 Demonstration team says, "Now that the sanding has been completed, members from 410 Squadron and 1 Air Maintenance Squadron wash and apply the primer on th CF-18 number 761 before painting the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan design."

Original Story:

The process to change the paint on the Canadian Forces CF-18 Demonstration jet has begun. Today the team posted an update on their Facebook page saying, "On a cold day in February at 4 Wing Cold Lake, Alberta, CF-18 Hornet number 188761 is rolled backwards into the paint booth and the laborious process of removing the 2015 paint scheme and prepping for the application of the new design begins."

The post continued, "Corporal Matt Bowman has a small crew ready begin the process. He has a core group of Aircraft Structure Technicians from the 1 Air Maintenance Squadron, but for this project he will be getting some help from 410 Squadron, the new ‘owners’ of 761. On the tails, the faces of WWII pilots and Winston Churchill will be seen for the last time, their images soon to disappear along with the camouflage, tricolour markings and old style roundels, in clouds of grey dust. Dirty work but someone has to do it," the post concluded.

The 2016 Season Theme - Training for Victory, will mean the jet will be painted in shades of yellow as a tribute to the Yellow Wings of The British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) and its contribution to the Second World War air effort. The CF-18 Demonstration Team will head to Comox British Columbia next month for their work ups towards their North American 2016 air show season with pilot Captain Ryan Kean. Their first show 29 April-1 May is in Havelock, North Carolina.
