In the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, the U.S. Marines have arrived to aid the local populous and with their controversial aircraft the V-22 Osprey.

This aircraft, from my perspective has the best abilities of both the rotor and fixed wing worlds. It is built as a cargo airplane, but has the ability to tilt its rotors to allow the aircraft to hover. It can reach speeds of up to 316 mph, and a maximum weight of 33,140 lbs. The Osprey can bring the heavy payloads of cargo helicopters and in half the time. One downfall is its size, with rotors turning its width is 84.6 ft and length 57.3 ft. The size and footprint of the osprey limit the maneuverability and ability to fit in tight landing zones.

As the Marines aid the people of the Philippines, they hope to prove the worth of their V-22 Osprey.
