Security Camera Catches Plane Crash in Pacoima
A Mooney M20 crashed on a busy street in Pacoima after taking off and trying to return to Whiteman Airport. The collision was caught on a security camera.
Ian Gregor of the FAA said "The pilot ended up landing on San Fernando Road south of the airport,” Gregor said. “The pilot, who was the only person on board, was not injured.” He walked away from the wreckage.
The plane damaged five parked cars and can be seen sliding down the middle of the street with one of its wings torn off from the impact. The Mooney hit vacant cars in the street and Nicolas Jimenez who was driving a car when the plan hit him. Jimenez said “Right when I realized it was about to hit me. That’s when I accelerated and swerved out of the way,” he said. He was not hurt either. No one was injured in the plane or on the ground.
