British Bloke Lasers Police Helicopter

What happens when a bunch of drunkards decide it would be hysterical to aim a laser at a passing helicopter?

The helicopter belonged to the National Police Air Service and within ten minutes an officer on the ground crashed their party much to their surprise.

The green light burst through the helicopter temporarily blinding the crew but police then switched to a thermal imaging camera which clearly showed these clowns laughing and drinking. The partiers switched from hoisting beverages to hands up when the officer directed by the pilot started asking pointed questions.

While we can laugh at their foolishness and the brilliance of the police response, targeting aircraft with lasers is a serious problem in every country.

According to local media, Chris Vowles, a 23-year-old shop worker was *sentenced to seven months suspended for two years and 250 hours of unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay £100 victim’s surcharge and £300 costs. *

Vowles should be glad he wasn't in the U.S. where a federal judge sentenced 26-year-old Sergio Rodriguez to 14 years in prison for “lasing” a police helicopter.
