Cruise and Bruckheimer Are Talking Top Gun 2 ...Again.
It will be 30 years this May that Top Gun opened and then would go on to become the highest-grossing movie of 1986. Tom Cruise now seems onboard a sequel along with original producer Jerry Bruckheimer, at least according to Twitter. (see below)
Bruckheimer tweeted to his followers yesterday afternoon at 4:26, "Just got back from a weekend in New Orleans to see my old friend @TomCruise and discuss a little Top Gun 2. "
And, it's not just Tom and Jerry. Other movements have also popped up on social media. Val Kilmer took to Facebook a while ago to say he'd been asked back as “Iceman,” but when questioned by Entertainment Weekly he clarified by saying, "Being offered a role is very different from doing a role.”
When Tom Cruise was asked a few months ago about it by the U.K's Daily Mail he said, “It would be fun. I would like to get back into those jets. It would have to be practical. I don’t want any CGI jets. I want to shoot it like how we shot the first one.”
Bruckheimer has said, “The concept is, basically, are the pilots obsolete because of drones? [Tom Cruise as Maverick] is going to show them that they’re not obsolete. They’re here to stay.”
According to ComingSoon.net, "Screenwriter Justin Marks (The Jungle Book) penned the most recent draft of the script, following a draft by Peter Craig (The Town)."
