Alpha Eta Rho Hosts First Joint Venture Fly-In with Frasca International
During the weekend of September 21st through the 23rd, Frasca Field Airport (C16) got a whole lot busier. This was due to the first annual Alpha Eta Rho Frasca Fly-In between Alpha Eta Rho's 135 chartered chapters around the world, with a large majority inside the United States, and a concentration around the Midwest. It was evident to the leadership of Alpha Eta Rho that the student and alumni members wanted more events outside of the annual National Conference.
Partnering with Frasca International for this event was by no means random. Rudy Frasca, founder of Frasca International is a charter and alumni member of Chi Chapter at the University of Illinois Champaign. Rudy's passion for simulation and the collegiate aviation, has led to his many awards throughout his career - recently achieving the Alpha Eta Rho Distinguished Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award.
Students and alumni who attended the event had the opportunity to network with each other outside of the annual National Conference in April, as well as receive personal tours by members of the Frasca Family of the Frasca Headquarters and Frasca's private fleet of vintage aircraft. Throughout the weekend students and alumni competed against each other in various flying events, such as spot landings and object drops, which were judged by on-site NIFA judges.
Alpha Eta Rho looks forward to hosting the second annual Frasca Field Fly-In next year during the last week of September in 2014 as well as a similar event for their chapters in the Western Region of the United States.
