Redbird to End $1 Avgas Early
Redbird Skyport at San Marcos Municipal Airport in Texas is ending its $1 avgas experiment early on October 15, instead of carrying on until the end of the month.
Redbird Skyport designed the experiment to see whether cheaper fuel encouraged more pilots to take to the sky. Redbird offered the fuel to pilots landing in San Marcos after they completed a short survey regarding fuel costs and their flying habits.
In a typical month, Redbird Skyport would sell 4,000 gallons of aviation fuel, but this month, officials estimate that they will sell 90,000 gallons by October 15.
The FBO will keep $1 gas available through the AOPA Summit in nearby Fort Worth this weekend, but officials said that it was physically and economically impossible to offer the fuel through the end of October.
