A Piper Cherokee made an emergency landing Sunday on a beach near Venice Beach, Florida, and killed a man and seriously injured his daughter after landing on the pair.

The two occupants inside the plane were not injured in the incident.

The injured girl was airlifted to a local hospital where she is listed as being in critical condition.

Wendy Rose, community affairs manager for the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, said that Venice airport alerted the Sheriff's Office to a "pilot in distress" on the beach.

The NTSB has dispatched a team to investigate what caused the accident.
