(UPDATED) Fatality at Frazier Lake Airport
On Thursday, August 6th around 10:30a PST, a Ryan PT-22 with two occupants on board was landing at the small grass-strip airfield located between Hollister and Gilroy, CA. At the same time, 75 year-old Doug Jackson, was operating a riding mower on the grass runway and could not be seen by the pilot.
Hollister Fire Chief, Bob Martin Del Campo reported "A couple of injuries", with two Calstar emergency helicopters being dispatched along with a local coroner.
Doug Jackson was a former member of the Hollister Flying Club and frequently piloted P-51's and T-6's out of nearby Hollister Airport.
Frazier Lake Airport is a small, single runway airport with only a grass strip; the kind of airport where everyone knows everyone else on the grounds. All of us at ATA share our condolences and best wishes to all those at Frazier Lake.
