We were able to go behind the scenes with Billy Richards and Mike Peavey during Sunday's America's Cup races on San Francisco Bay.

Mike was flying a Eurocopter AS350B2 A-STAR helicopter mounted with gyro-stablized Cineflex HD camera. Billy Richards operated by the camera by a remote control system and monitor in the backseat of the helicopter.

During the two and a half hour mission, Mike and Billy worked in concert to position the helicopter in various positions along the race course to capture the excitement of the races, which features Emirates Team New Zealand and America's Cup defender Oracle Team USA.

Three additional A-STAR helicopters worked the airspace as well, providing both aerial footage for the television coverage. In addition, the other helicopters were fitted with special GPS devices which provided the grid lines on the San Francisco Bay, which is used in the television broadcast to give viewers perspective as to the distances between boats.
