VIDEO: Smoke Plume Seen from MH 17 Crash
Early reports indicate Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 may have been shot down over the Ukraine killing all 295 passengers on board.
The Russian news agency Interfax said that Anton Geraschenko of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry confirmed the aircraft was shot down with a missile by pro-Russian separatists. The Boeing 777 crashed in Ukraine's restive eastern region, near where government forces are fighting pro-Russian insurgents.
Russian rebels battling Ukrainian forces in the area have been seen armed with surface-to-air missiles, according to the BBC. Shortly before the Malaysian plane disappeared from the radar, rebel forces tweeted they had shot down an aircraft.
Some 295 people were said to be on board the aircraft, which was reportedly flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.
