Radio Controlled Warbirds Invade the Midwest
Some say R/C airplanes are toys. These airplanes are definitely not!
My local R/C flying club the Fox Valley Aero Club hosted a Warbirds & Classics fly-in this summer. To participate the aircraft had to qualify as a warbird or vintage and have at least an 80" wingspan. Dozens of pilots and planes from all across the country came by for the weekend event.
Seeing such a wide variety of aircraft was a treat, and some were so big that you'd swear it was the real airplane as it flew by.
R/C clubs all hold events like this throughout the year. To see if a club near you is holding a fly-in check out the AMA's event calendar.
