Smoke On A B-17! CAF AIRSHO Recap
History repeats itself at the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) AIRSHO in Midland, TX this past October. A surprise to everyone was revealed after smoke poured out of engine 3 of B-17 Texas Raiders during the full Tora Tora Tora act. Not since the early years of the Confederate Air Force Airshow down in Harlingen has this dramatic part of Tora Tora Tora been accomplished.
With the smoke system attached, the realism of Japanese zeros swarming the iconic B-17, crippling the bomber during the Tora Tora Tora - Pearl Harbor reenactment continues.
For one veteran, TH "Ike" Eicher, B-17 Ball turret gunner who flew 33 missions was on hand to see and touch a B-17 once again since World War II.
Among the airshow activities there was a swearing in of new members joining the CAF.
The CAF AIRSHO was filled with some headlining acts of Kyle Franklin/Dracula, Neil Darnell driving Flash Fire Jet Truck and Randy Ball with his Mig-17. Among these performers were the CAF warbirds including a flight line of heavy bombers and an A-26 Invader tearing up the field with pyro. And for a rare sighting Midland is the only location where you will see the A-Bomb performed by the CAF Pyro Team - The Blastards. For more on the recap check out the Commemorative Air Force.
