The Air Force Thunderbirds will not fly this weekend at the Kirtland Air Force Base Open House in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The team will stand down after Thunderbird #6, Major Alex Turner, was forced to ditch his aircraft after safely flying the Air Force graduation in Colorado Springs.

A safety stand down is standard procedure after an accident while the cause is being investigated.

No one on the ground was inured due to Turner's skill in avoiding populated areas according to Air Force officials.
