American civilian aerobatic pilot Billy Werth's plane suffered an apparent mechanical issue and struck several trees as he skillfully avoided several cars on a two-lane highway in Maine.

Werth walked away from the crash and quickly posted his perspective on Facebook.

Hey everyone!! First off, thank you so much for your support. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. I know the pics on the news look bad, but I walked away with only two stitches on my hand. I was able to avoid hitting the cars on the highway, and thus possibly injuring someone on the ground, so I feel better about that. The Eagle suffered some sort of mechanical malfunction and that spot was my only choice. I'll keep the updates coming once I get more info over the next couple of days. Thanks again and keep flying safe!!!

Local media reports Werth had been flying at the Acadian Heritage Air Show in Frenchville over the weekend.

No one on the ground was hurt. More on the story.
