2 Time British Advanced Aerobatics Champion Killed

David Jenkins was killed yesterday while performing at a media event to launch the Old Buckenham Airshow scheduled in August.

Jenkins was a two-time British champion and a member of the Wildcat Aerobatic Team based at Old Buckenham Airfield. He was named British Advanced Champion in 2012 and 2013 winning more than 40 medals at other competitions as well. He was flying a solo routine in an Edge at the time of the crash in front of about 20 people and members of the press that had gathered to watch the display at around 2.40pm.

According to the Wildcat website, he began flying as a teenager, after a career in fibre optics, the University of Oxford graduate obtained his private pilot’s licence flying conventionally for 15 years before beginning aerobatics 10 years ago. Jenkins bought the Edge in 2009 adding a solo element to the Wildcat's Pitts two-ship team in 2013.

Jenkins was 62 years old, the crash site was very close to the airfield and within the aerobatic box. No one on the ground was involved.
