Airliner Makes Heavy Crosswind Landing Then Taxis Onto The Grass
U.K. Videographer Flugsnug captured an interesting moment recently involving this colourful Small Planet Airbus. He says in his latest post, "After an ungainly crosswind landing at Birmingham Airport on Sunday 21st February 2016, this A320 from Paderborn ran off the taxiway, getting stuck on the grass. This led to emergency service call out and difficulties with the general airfield operations as landing planes had to backtrack down the runway to reach the terminals. I don't know at the moment why the plane ended up like this - I don't believe any details have been released officially yet."
A statement released shortly after the accident which happened on Sunday afternoon said, “Birmingham airport can confirm that an A320 aircraft belonging to charter company, Small Planet, has manoeuvred off the taxiway into grass after landing from Paderborn. Passengers have safely disembarked and have been bussed to the terminal. There are no reports of injuries. The aircraft is currently positioned on a grass area adjacent to the taxiway. The airport’s rescue service is in attendance and the runway remains open.”
