Emergency Escape Chute Falls From Plane
No one was injured after an emergency escape chute deployed on an airliner while in flight, detached and fell to the ground near Mesa, Arizona.
The FAA reports that an Atlas Air Boeing 767 on final approach to Sky Harbor Airport was at 2,800 feet when the right over-the-wing emergency escape slide deployed. The plane was was able to land without any trouble. Only the crew was onboard.
A Buddha statue and some garden angels came close but only a tree seems to have been damaged. "It's definitely a blessing that the damage is a tree and not a person," home owner Andrea Self told local media. It landed right outside her front door.
The FAA is investigating what caused that slide to deploy.
