Malaysia Airlines 777 Shot Down in Eastern Ukraine
Malaysia Airlines has reported that they have lost contact with MH17, a Boeing 777 (registration 9M-MRD) flying between Kuala Lumpur and Amsterdam, over Eastern Ukraine.
Ukrainian officials report that the aircraft was shot down by Ukrainian rebels.
Ukrainian Interior Minister adviser Anton Gerashchenko said on his Facebook page that the plane carrying 280 passengers and 15 crew was hit by a missile and crashed.
Interfax, the Russian news service, reported that the flight began losing altitude 30 miles from the Russian border, citing an unnamed aviation official.
The burning wreckage of the plane was found in Ukraine.
